notes:

  • IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE HOW YOU LOOK LIKE IN PERSON. SO WASHED UP ADOBE EDITING IS A BIG NO.
  • THE MAKE-UP SHOULD BE MINIMAL. SOME CASTERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS INSISTS ON HAVING NONE AT ALL.
  • PUT YOUR BEST FACE FORWARD. ANY MODEL CAN PULL OUT A GOOD HEADSHOT. IF YOU CAN'T, YOU MIGHT WANT TO RETHINK YOUR PROFESSION.

top 10 relationship LIES

i remember when i first came to multiply i came to encounter earvin aquino's blog on his "top 10 lines of 2007", i added him then as a contact and we 2 years later we're good friends.

anyways.. in that tradition, me and my friend came up with our own top 10, based on past relationships, flings and even pick up lines.

10."DI SA AKIN IMPORTANTE KUNG ANU MAN ITSURA MO..."

9. "WALA AKONG PAKIALAM SA SINASABI NG MGA KAIBIGAN KO..."

8. "NAGUGULUHAN AKO... GUSTO KO LANG NG SPACE....."

7. "DI SA AKIN IMPORTANTE ANG SEX..."

6. "UUWI AKO AGAD AFTER WORK/SCHOOL"

5. "KAIBIGAN KO LANG YUN."

4. "NAWAWALA YUNG CELLPHONE KO KAYA DI AKO MAKAPAGTEXT"

3. "GAGAWIN KO LAHAT HUWAG KA LANG MAWALA SA AKIN."

2. "BEYBI, IKAW LANG TALAGA.......PROMISE"

1. "DI KITA IIWAN..."

TFCDs

i was around the metro, assisting in shoots and being part of some this weekend and one topic that was constantly brought up was "EX-DEALS". i guess a lot of people really do mistake it the term of TFCD which literally means TIME FOR CD's or photos.

Ex deals are actually transactions wherein a party -usually the model- gets some compensation out of a photoshoot or fashion show in a non monetary manner such as gift certificates or clothes after the job. TFCDs or TFPs are transactions wherein both parties do not compensate each other, and usually just give each other photos afterwards.

my friend was complaining that he was being asked to do free photo shoots a lot, and was already being called "suplado" for declining most of the time. declining -i feel- is an innate privilege to everyone, and shouldn't be held against a person. usually models and photographers turn down invites -honestly- because they simply have no use for the photos or the concept or -to be downright honest- the person, that the time and energy spent on the project would seem like a waste.

again. it's nothing personal. it's just that you were not the right person for the job. it happens to everyone. photographer, models, stylists, fashion directors and make-up artists a like. the sad part is, some do take it a bit personally and even spread rumors about apparent sexual favors being asked or just the other party being "too suplado" . it's a bit ridiculous at times and funny.

i have also been verbally attacked online for turning down stuff, and is sorta used to being declined so i might take it a bit lightly. i guess you do elarn to understand the industry a lot better after some time.

important notes to be considered:

  • the best photographers would book the freshest faces with the most potential. usually ones which don't have their photos plastered all over the net in a weekly -sometimes daily- basis. when you come to think of it, it like disliking another person for having wearing the exact same shirt that you have on.
  • even the best models would agree to free shoots. just as long there is food, a make up artist and if possible wardrobe and transportation.
  • reputation is everything in the industry. so be polite and genuinely nice to everyone that you get to meet, and be gracious.
  • as for photographers, if you have killer concepts and a massive portfolio, the good models will come to you. you don't even have to ask them.
  • same goes with lending clothes from designers. if you have an awesome portfolio, word will get around and designers will be begging for you to come to events and shoot their work..
  • NEVER EVER teach more experienced people on what to do if you don't have the bulk of immaculately good work to back you up. everyone has their own style, and if you're a newcomer with a sharp tongue or attitude, word will go around and you will stay as a newcomer/novice to their eyes in a veryyy longgg time.
  • don't believe the "nice person" facade a lot of people give you. there's a lot of fake people with hidden agendas that would gladly love to talk trash behind you.
  • if you wanna achieve something, do some research. you cannot be a photographer if you you do not know the basics of photography. being good at shooting portraits doesn't guarantee you'll do well in fashion, it takes a lot of reading and dept before you are able to master your own technique.
  • if you wanna model, know actual models not actors or has beens like Tyra and the rest of the 90s supermodels. trends change. so do the people who create them so you have to constantly update yourself. you can't execute something that you do not understand.

MELISSA BAKER. S.I. SUPERMODEL

Photobucket
SPORT'S ILLUSTRATED SUPERMODEL.

Photobucket
THAT HAS GOT TO SET OFF SOME TESTOSTERONE ALARMS.
Photobucket
MELISSA BAKER WAS KIND ENOUGH TO SPARE ME SOME TIME AND ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS FROM FROM ME, AND SHE REPLIED WITHIN JUST A COUPLE OF HOURS. SHE JUST RADIATES POSITIVITY THAT IT MAKES ME SMILE.
Photobucket

AND YEAH. US BOYS LOVE HER EXOTIC GOOD LOOKS TOO.

YEOH: can you you tell us somethings about yourself?
MELISSA: I'm a single Ohio girl who loves family, football,my pets, modeling and Rascal Flatts.

Photobucket
Y: what cities have you worked in? and what's the agencies
that represent you?
M: I have traveled to many places in Europe and the states but my main market is in NYC. I am represented by Women in Paris and Milan, Ford in Chicago and Canada and Click in NYC at the moment.

Photobucket
Y: when did you start to model? and how did you fall into
the industry?
M: I was a competitve gymnast at FLYTZ Gymnastics in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.I loved it but when I stopped I needed something to do with all that extra time and decided to go to work to earn the money for a car. It was about that time I seen my first Victoria Secret runway show on television and fell in love with modeling. I knew the second I seen the girls walk that runway looking so sexy and beautiful I needed to be a part of that.
Funny thing is I bought the car, gave it away to someone that needed it but kept the modeling! :)

Y: being part of sport's illustrated's swimwsuit edition
may be the ultimate goal of every female model that i know.
how did it feel being part of it?
M: How do you describe the feeling when you reach one of your dreams? No words seem to be enough.
One feeling I can describe is thankful for Diane Smith and the ones who allowed me the chance to be a part of the Sports Illustrated family. There are so many models out there they could of chose and I will always appreciate the shot they gave me.
It was an experience I will NEVER forget.

Photobucket
Y: you've done quite a lot of modelling work around the
world. can you tell us what's it's like to work in all those
major fashion capitals?
M : It's very exciting to be able to travel to all those locations and work with so many talented people, the more markets the more people. Each place is really different and I enjoy seeing the differences between them. Ive been very lucky and blessed to be a part of it all.

Y: what the most gratifying part of being a model?
M: I love the photography process. I love watching how an idea from a client or team starts and ends up this amazing final product. Outside of the business end it helps you to be able to help others through charity work. Once people start to recognize you, it makes it easier to help other people.

Y: if you were allowed to eat anything, at any amount
within a span of a day. what would it be?
M: Im "allowed " to eat anything I want. No one tells me what to eat, or at least I dont listen! ha ha
I do choose to eat healthy most of the time, but when I do indulge its chocolate and of course my addiction ICE CREAM(vanilla with brownies is my favorite!) I make sure I exercise and workout with my long time trainer Justin Gelband and he kicks my butt and keeps me in shape.

Photobucket
Y: i have to be honest, whilst i was writing these
questions my bud was annoying me about asking your number.
-LOL- you probably get a lot of male attention, how do
you handle all of that?
M: Tell him find me on Myspace and write, I answer all my emails. Sometimes it takes awhile to get to them with all the traveling but eventually I would get time to talk. ha ha
Handling the male attention?
As long as they act like a gentleman and respectful I love talking to them- probably too much because I like to talk! I think it's nice they notice my work and take time to write. Im still amazed when I go home to Ohio and Im in sweats, no make up and a ponytail at the gas station and guys recognize me. How do they do that? ha ha ha

<Photobucket
Y: what advice can you give aspiring models?
M: ALWAYS HAVE A BACK UP PLAN. ALWAYS.
If modeling is your dream, give it a try- go for it. Don't let people stop you from trying to reach your goal but...
You need to realize it is a very competitve, tough business. If you get that lucky break CONGRATS and thats wonderful, but if things dont go as planned you have the other to fall back on. Many beginning models go to school or work another job and model until they see how the business is working out for them.

FERNANDA TAVARES. veteran favorite

Photobucket
FERNANDA TAVARES earned her vogue cover and walked the Milan and Paris runways some months earlier than her bestfriend Gisele Bundchen.

She has done all the major runway shows including Victoria's Secret, done major ad campaign for Ralph Lauren, Versace, Valentino, Chloe etc and has graced all the major fashion magazine, from Vogue to Sports Illustrated. She has always been known to being one of the nicest girls in the industry, coming from a poor family in the slums of northern part of her country.

HOWEVER, besides her native country of Brazil she never became a household name. Not having as much of a following didn't stop the supermodel from being consistent though. Even after being married and having a child, she made several appearances in Sao Paolo and Milan Fashion week, her body great as ever and her charisma still radiant as the sun.

I MISS SHENG.

SHENG had always been my pimp.

Photobucket
im really trying to say something profound but i can't.

she was one of the first models that i saw here in multiply too btw. together with earvin and cheneil i guess they inspired a lot of kids, to try their luck too.

with smile, they were the first of my generation of models to break away from the photoshoots and multiply. they allowed us to believe that it was possible. they got into fashion week, and was represented by raven models. it was such a dream for our circle of friends i guess.
Photobucket
Photobucket

around that time there was already a buzz about multiply , and its growing hoard of new models and photographers. i guess there was a lot of skeptics of how far us kids would go i guess. and later on, we'd be warned by our agencies or fellow models about posting stuff online. sheng was always hopeful and encouraging to everyone. she just made you feel at ease. we were just excited about everything. we almost had the same dreams, and after some time i felt that i was actually catching up. she then gave up on her passion at that time. even erased her online accounts. but we didn't stop being friends though. she is more like a sister now. =)

i just wish she would model again.LOL
