i still still remember that fateful night that i had an argument with a couple of old office mates last year, when they declared that models are dumb. apparently all they know is to walk and pose, and whatever intellect that had in them wasn't used because they were too vain to use it. they had also stated that i was able to model even though i was smart because i came from ateneo -wth?-, and because of that i had more sources.
they seriously had the worst arguments in the world probably just fueled by some unknown anger, seriously they seemed really mad. -lol- i mean come on i have met dumb models in this business but hey not everyone is. seriously, most are nice people and very well educated, good natured people. i really do empathize with my friends when i hear certain stereotypes about the profession and the nature of work we do. i would rarely refer to myself as one, as i always say it's a job, it's not a social status and that's the way most in the business would see it. most of the models i hang out and are friends with around my age, mostly still in school and paying most of their tuition through the money that we make. some are college graduates with good paying jobs or self owned business who just do it, because it's fun. i don't see dumb, vain people. i see a group of people who found something they could actually excel at, and have an awesome time doing it. it's like playing dress up and being another person once your made up and styled to whatever look you have to portray.
to be frank most of the ones i've had problems with or had seriously annoyed me are the new kids who just don't seem to be cut out for it. the ones who have the audacity to complain to professional make up artists on how their make up was done or to designers on how the clothes fit. you always have to be polite and gracious, because we can easily be replaced. i have so much respect for the really experienced friends that i have that are more than willing to take stragglers like me under their wing, and are so so so down to earth well in fact their faces are everywhere.
by the way, that walk that is put into a lot of scrutiny takes hours of practice and constructive -and sometimes demeaning- comments before it's actually done "correctly". those photos that we have in our book? well they're 1 out of like a hundred shots taken during that photoshoot and boy it takes hours. also, put into mind whenever your watching fashion week or any other fashion show at around 8pm or 10pm, that we were there at 7am for rehearsals, make up and a whole lot of waiting. and did i mention the number of go sees you actually have to go through until you're finally booked?
sigh.
i seriously write this blog on my head last night before i went to bed. lol.i always get a rush of blood to my head whenever i remember that pompous office mate of mine who has grown in girth a lot more that i last saw him.
come on. seriously. i'd rather be dumb and pretty, rather than being ugly and angsty.
