I first saw Grendel at a casting in Makati. She had so much presence, that in the few seconds that she stomped her way towards the casting panel, everyone was looking at her. My friend -who was at the other side of the room- texted me, "I LOVE HER NA. Ganyan pala dapat maglakad..."

Grendel Alvarado, had exceeded all the critics of her reality TV show and has risen to become one of the most in demand models in the local fashion scene.

And despite her schedule, she took some time to answer my interview -YEY-.

YEOH: We all know you as the winner from the show philippine's next top model. can you tell us what was the best part of the experience for you?

GRENDEL: I think the best part of the experience was being in the show itself and having met these wonderful judges who gave praises for a job well done and constructive criticisms so that i can improve. I feel lucky to have known them in the show because in the real world no one will really tell you what to do.

Y: How did the show and it's exposure change your life?

G: The show has boosted my self esteem and confidence. It has changed my life because people don't really appreciate what I do but when i won the title they soon understand what my passion is all about.

Y: Did you already have any modelling experience before you joined the show? how did you start in the business and what made you wanna become a model?

G: Yes somehow I had little background on modeling since i would join fashion shows both in Bacolod and Iloilo but i didn't consider it as the basics. I know then that i have a lot to learn. I thought of being a model when i was in college when i would buy every fashion magazine there is and i'd watch fashion shows on tv while trying to follow their walk and poses. Since then i was inspired to model and made a big move when I left Bacolod for Manila. I moved here 2 years ago doing mall shows and after a few months i joined PNTM.

Y: After the show, you did exceptionally well. i see you in fashion shows and magazines all the time. for you what has been the most memorable job that you booked?

G: The most memorable job I had booked was in Hongkong for the Jewelmer show. We stayed there for several days and not a single day wasn't spent shopping. It was tiring because we had to do 6 mini shows in a day but fun because after work is time for shopping. It was a humbling experience to work abroad even just for a few days.

Y: How do you feel whenever you see yourself in a magazine or in television?

G: Of course i feel happy and overwhelmed. Sometimes i can't get over the fact that i am on television that i have to slap my face or pinch my skin so i could believe it's true. Modeling is really something I'm most passionate about and seeing myself in a magazine or television makes me want to do more and do better.

Y: I also noticed that you have a great walk. how did you learn or master you walk?

G: Thank you, i think i have learned my walk by too much watching of fashion shows on tv and imitating it at home and also from the experiences i gained in modeling. Experience is still the best teacher for me!

Y: If you were to give advice to any aspiring models. what would it be?

G: Always live with passion because if you're passionate about something be it in modeling or not you will likely to succeed. Put your heart into your goal and work hard for it and don't let any opportunity pass through you're hands. Lastly, always leave a room for change and learn to accept criticisms from other people because it can help you improve. Never give up on your dreams!
